Break out the bong, light up the blunt, and be with the only girl you need today, Mary Jane, because today, April 20th, at 4:20pm marijuana smokers everywhere will unanimously light up.

4:20 is recognized by smokers as their favorite time of day, a time to relax and get high, the date April 20th4/20) has become the unofficial national holiday for smoker everywhere.

Originally started by a group of California high school students, in 1971, as a time to meet up and toke; 4:20 has since become ingrained into cannabis culture worldwide, and even gained some mainstream recognition. Still, much myth and speculation surrounds this special time.

Myths and Facts

Very believable, but very false. In no city is the police penal code for smoking pot 420, nowhere.

False. Until someone comes up with a super chronic, there are only 315 active chemicals in cannabis.

4:20 is teatime for pot-smokers in Holland.
Close, but no. Teatime runs only on the half hour in Holland.

The 20th of April is the best time to plant marijuana.
Although true, it is only partially true. With a mere 120 days from seed to mature plant, anytime is the right time to grow some bud.

Albert Hofmann took the first deliberate LSD trip at 4:20 on 19 April 1943.
Confirmed by his lab notes; Hofmann did begin his first LSD trip at 4:20. But this is merely coincidence, since at the time; 4:20 had yet to have any significance in the cannabis culture.

When the Grateful Dead toured, they always stayed in Room 420
